The Byzantine Empire
The Byzantine Empire was a very interesting subject to have for this year. I was somewhat disappointed when I got it because I knew a very good deal
about it already. I did learn a lot though. It was a very important part in the shaping of the society and culture of the east. It brought in new Ideas, technology and
rulers that would have otherwise not been invented of would have taken much longer to think up.
Take the rulers for example; Constantine was amazing he has a city named after him. Justinian and Theodora were the dynamic duo of the ancient world.
Together they shaped their empire and ushered in a new era that allowed ideas to flourish. They went through hardships too, with the Bubonic plague, also when
Justinian tried to flee Constantinople but Theodora held him back.
Also their new technology was amazing. They invented new ways to build cathedrals and bridges that would shape the way we build today. Also the
ancient scientist invented a chemical that would burn for an immensely long period of time. It burned on water and any other surface. The recipe for this Greek fire
has been lost and we haven’t been able to replicate it since.
I like this empire for my project. I enjoyed relearning and learning new facts. I love to learn anything new and exciting. I’m glad I got this culture for my
year long history language class project.
